Edward Stringer

Edward Stringer is a retired senior officer in the British Royal Air Force (RAF). After beginning his career as a fast-jet pilot, he then served in a variety of operational and command roles, from the Gulf War in 1991 to the Libyan air campaign of 2011, before undertaking higher-command duties as Director of Military Operations in the British Ministry of Defence (MOD) and Assistant Chief of the Air Staff. Later, he went on to become the Director General of the Defence Academy and Joint Force Development, a position in which he was described as the MOD's ‘licensed futurologist’. Since leaving the RAF, he has spent his time working in consultancy – including for PwC, the Pentagon, and the Ukrainian government – as well as within academia and various think tanks, such the University of St Andrews and Policy Exchange. He also writes for The Financial Times, Foreign Affairs, The Daily Telegraph, The Spectator and The Atlantic on defence-related issues.
