Paul Cartledge

Paul Cartledge is Emeritus A. G. Leventis Professor of Greek Culture at the University of Cambridge, and his doctorate is from the University of Oxford. He was a consultant for the BBC series The Greeks: Crucible of Civilization (narrated by Liam Neeson) and the Channel 4 series The Spartans (presented by Bettany Hughes). He has been a frequent guest on the BBC’s In Our Time and many other programmes. Professor Cartledge is also a holder of the Gold Cross of the Order of Honour of Ancient Greece and an Honorary Citizen of Sparta. His seminal books include Alexander the Great; Democracy, A Life; Thebes: The Forgotten City of Ancient Greece; The Spartans: An Epic History; Ancient Greece: A History in Eleven Cities and others.
