Shiro Yoshioka is lecturer in Japanese Studies at Newcastle University, UK. His research interest is in Japanese animation, especially Studio Ghibli and Miyazaki Hayao. He is particularly interested in promotion and reception of their works as well as the process of them being separated from 'anime' to gain special recognition as 'Ghibli/Miyazaki films.'
