Jan Morris (1926-2020) wrote several books on British
imperial subjects, including the Pax Britannica trilogy about the rise and
decline of the Victorian empire, Stones of Empire (1983) about British imperial architecture in India, The Spectacle of Empire (1982) about imperial aesthetics, The Hashemite Kings (1959) about the British presence in the Middle East, and studies of Canada, South Africa, Hong Kong and Sydney. In the afterlife, she said, she plans to have an affair with an imperial admiral, Lord Fisher of Kilverstone, whose biography she has written and who died in 1920.
